South African Sizzle on March 10, 2015

PREVIOUS EVENTS

I am so excited to be included in a wonderful event on March 10th at 6:30 PM at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA. It’s called South African Sizzle and it is presented by New Center: Exploring the Jewish Imagination. The event will take place at Founders Hall at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.

The event is inspired by the fact that in the Greater Boston Jewish community, there is a sizeable group who came to the area from South Africa. As much as we interact and socialize, the story of the Jews of South Africa is not well known. In my presentation, I will take the audience on a journey back to my childhood in South Africa from an adult perspective on the legacy of the past.
Through the lens of my personal story and the wellspring of research I did while writing my novel, Bloodlines, I hope to convey a compelling sense of what it meant for black and white South Africans to live under apartheid, and the experiences of the Jewish community in South Africa during the anti-apartheid movement.
But that’s not all. guests will be seated at tables and there will be authentic  South African food and drink, as well as the soaring music of South Africa performed in Zulu and English by The Earth Tones of the New England Conservatory.
I am hoping that the evening will provide a moving perspective on a Jewish community and a country that suffered great turmoil in its quest for social justice and equality. Click here for more information and tickets.
